Become an LGV HGV Driving Instructor.
Join the National Register of LGV Instructors (NRI).
What is the NRI?
Answer: Some time ago the government department responsible for driver training the Driving Standards Agency then later the Driver Vehicle Services Agency ended the official government LGV Voluntary Instructor Register. In the wake of it ending in 2016 the RTITB with the backing of the DVSA and trade associations created the National Register of LGV Instructors - aimed at developing a much needed professional approach to LGV instructor training.
As one of the Directors of Tockwith Training is a board member of the Association we are very well positioned to enable you to pass your test(s) and join this register successfully.
The Training to enter onto the NRI scheme depends on individual training centres to create a suitable course, the durations and trainee ratios are not set out by the scheme. Simply put, there are tests on the final day which you must be prepared for in order to pass, how you go about this is up to yourself and the training provider.
1. Visit us for a driver/instructor assessment, currently £55, phone us to book an appointment. Unless you a entering the Re-Registration - simply call us to book this 2 day session.
2. Book the training as suggested on your assessment, however we will need to liase with the NRI to ensure an examiner is available for your final course day.
3. Attend your training session, upon successful completion your NRI Instructor Badge and Certificate should reach you with 10-15 days and its valid for 5 years.
All 4 parts of the instructor testing take place on the final day with the NRI examiner visiting, you will be handed over to the examiner by your instructor on this last day of your course. The elements of testsing are:
Part One - Theory Test of 100 multi-choice questions.
Part Two - Your Practical Driving Ability/Test, takes about an hour and you must get no more that 6 driving faults.
Part Three - In-Cab training sessions relating to delivering a new skill, remedial/correction and instructor comentary - each taking approximately 20 minutes within the one driving lesson.
Part Four - Classroom demonstration session, you will be required to teach an element in a classroom setting to the examiner.

Letters of Thanks from customers.
I would just like to say a big thank you for helping me achieve my C1 license to be able to train as a paramedic! All the staff were fantastic and very approachable, making me feel very welcome during my training sessions. I gained so much confidence in my driving ability. I would definately recommend Tockwith 100% for anyone who is looking into advance driving.
Thanks again! Ruth
